Ashaiman Court Jails 18-Year-Old Mechanic 10 Years for Robbery

The Ashaiman Circuit Court has sentenced an 18-year-old motor mechanic, Prosper Adjetey, to 10 years in prison with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to robbery.

The judgment was delivered by Her Honour Priscilla Sophia Yeboah on Tuesday, following Adjetey’s admission of guilt.

Incident Details

According to court records, the incident occurred on August 26, 2025, around 9:30 p.m. The victim, Ms. Gifty Dzomenor, a factory worker, was on her way from Blessed Clemetina Church at Middle East, Ashaiman, to the main lorry station to catch a bus home.

While speaking on her Infinix phone valued at GH¢1,900, she noticed Adjetey walking in her direction. Just as she attempted to place the phone in her handbag, he forcibly snatched it and tried to flee.

Struggle and Arrest

Ms. Dzomenor quickly grabbed his shirt, and a struggle ensued. Adjetey dragged her into a nearby gutter, overpowered her, and attempted to escape with the phone. However, the victim raised an alarm, attracting bystanders who pursued him.

He was nearly lynched by the angry mob but was rescued by a police patrol team, who arrested him and escorted him to the police station.

Court’s Verdict

After reviewing the case, the court convicted Adjetey on his own plea and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour.
